Frequently Asked Questions

What size Doodles do you breed?

All of our Doodles are standard size. The adult weight can range between 65 - 90 pounds. The females have a tendency to be smaller than the males, but we make no guarantees about projected adult sizes.

Will my puppy shed?

Our puppies should have minimal shedding. We breed F1B and F1BB Doodles in order to produce a highly sought after curly coat that is also reputable for hypoallergenic tendencies in addition to the minimal shedding quality. The crossbreed to the poodle is responsible for acquiring the desired attributes of this minimal shedding.

How do I get on the waiting list for a puppy?

You will be required to place a $200 non-refundable deposit to secure a spot on our waiting list. You will choose your puppy in the order deposit money is received. You may also defer your deposit money for a future litter if you are unable to get a particular sex or color desired. If deposit money is deferred, your name will be moved up on our list. We accept VENMO and Cash APP (no fees).

When do I pick out my puppy?

We do not recommend picking your puppy prior to 4-weeks old. We will notify you for an appointment to come to The Sugardoodle Barn and select your sweet DOODLE baby! If you are located too far away, we offer a FaceTime option as well.

When does my puppy get to come home?

As the breeder, we will decide when your puppy is ready to go home. We typically allow our puppies to go to their new homes at 7-weeks old providing they are at an adequate weight for age, eating and tolerating Purina Puppy Chow and have been weaned from their mother. Under no circumstances will we allow the puppies to leave our care until they have been fully examined by our Veterinarian.

Will my puppy be vaccinated before coming home?

All of our puppies will receive their 6-week vaccinations (parvo/distemper) and deworming medication prior to going home. Each puppy is weighed, microchipped (optional) and examined by The Sugardoodle Barn’s official veterinarian, Dr. Angie Olt - owner of Millcreek Veterinary Center in Greensburg, KY.

Will my puppy be potty trained?

The quick answer is, NO! Puppies go home between 7-8 weeks old. Due to the litter living together as a group, individual potty training is impossible! We begin puppy pad training by sectioning off an area for toileting in their living quarters. They do well by sleeping in one end and doing their business in the other.

Do you recommend crate training?

Crate training is a very effective way to implement training for a new puppy. A smaller confined space creates an environment where the puppy is less likely to make messes. Puppies typically prefer to do their business in a place that is separate from where they sleep.

What do I need to feed my puppy?

Our puppies are introduced to Purina Puppy Chow at approximately 4-weeks of age to help supplement mother’s milk feedings. We soften the puppy food in warm water to make it easier for our young puppies to eat. Feel free to make a switch to your preferred puppy food brand once the puppy goes home with you. You may see some temporary gastrointestinal effects when making the puppy food switch, but this will regulate within a couple of days.

Will my puppy be registered?

We register all of our litters with CKC (Continental Kennel Club) as crossbreed puppies. Each puppy comes with the appropriate CKC paperwork that will allow you to register your puppy if that is something that is important to you. However, registration is only important for breeding and/or showing your puppy and is typically not applicable in the purchase of a family pet.
